REASONS to REMOVE TREESTUMPS OR LEAVE A TREE STUMP IN THE GRUND

Is it hard to decide whether to haul your stump away or to keep it? Washington Tree Solution recommends that stumps be removed if possible.

Is it okay to leave a tree stump in the ground? TREE STUMPS ATTRACT DETERMINES.

The stumps will begin to decay very slowly once they have been removed from the tree. Yes, stumps become a magnet for termites or carpenter bugs.

Although you can choose to let the stump rot, insects and other pests that might be present could spread to your yard and infest your home. It is best to remove the stump or grind it down in order to avoid pest problems.

WHY SHOULD I REMOVE a TREE STUMP?

You don't have to remove a stump because of creepy critters. Your stump might also be a nuisance to wildlife.

  • A stump that's decayed isn’t very pretty. It can make your yard look unattractive and could even impact your property's worth.
  • The stump should be kept out of your lawn. If they are accidentally rolled over, the mower may become damaged.
  • It is not possible to plant new trees in close proximity if the stump or far-reaching roots are in your way

IS IT BETTER TO GRIND A STUMP OU REMOVE IT

Both stump grinding, stump removal, and stump grinding have pros and cons. The best route for you will depend on what future plans you have.

The stump-removal process is more involved. It involves lifting out the bulky stump and then digging out all of the tree's roots. It requires time, elbow grease, and powerful equipment to complete the task. The upside? The upside is that you can start over with any new ideas for your landscape after stump removal. It is a problem because stump removal can leave a large hole which can be distracting until it is filled in.

Stump grinders are much more efficient. Arborists use a machine in this instance to reduce the stump too small woodchips. However, grinding is faster than stump removal. It does not leave behind tree roots. If the stump is extremely large, the chip heap can be quite large. However, the chips can still be used for mulching other plants in the landscape.

WHAT HAPPENS to ROOTS AFTER GRAINING?

While stump grinding removes visible remnants of the tree, roots from the old tree may still be present underground. They can sometimes extend 4, 8, or 12 feet beyond the stump. These roots will naturally degrade after they are removed from the ground, but it takes a long time. It can take the roots 10+ years to completely decay.

A professional arborist can help you make a decision about whether stump grinding or removal is the best choice for you.
